Mark Driscoll Squares Off in Nightline Debate Tonight
If you want to stay up for a while watching your bracket survive or die after the games tonight I would recommend that you tune in for a lively and theological debate later this evening on ABC's Nightline on the existence of Satan.
Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle Washington gives a clear and distinct presentation of the gospel that you don't want to miss. He definitely makes the most of his opportunity to focus on Christ being the ONLY real alternative to our spiritual enemy and our own spiritual deadness. I have made no secret in the past about some concerns I have had about Driscoll and some of the language that he uses behind the pulpit. Nevertheless, I must give credit where credit is due. He does a brilliant job in proclaiming our Savior and it was exciting to see and hear Driscoll biblically lay out what the doctrine of evil and the solution in Jesus Christ.
If you don't want to stay up and watch it tonight you can view the whole debate HERE.

Sorry Mike,
His language in the pulpit spoils all the rest of his message. You cannot have it both ways. Pulpit Magazine reproducing much of the Shepherds Conference material takes him to task too.
Dr. Leon
Thanks Mike! I'll be sure to tune in! (which, come to think of it is a very old school way of saying I'll flip over to that channel!) :-)
Leon,
I have read Phil Johnson's series of lectures from the Shepherd's Conf. and I applaud his work.
But I also know of another high profile theologian/blogger who has called Driscoll to task on many occasions and was actually approached by Driscoll in a very humble and repentant fashion. In fact, (and this was as recent as last week) Driscoll thanked him for pointing these issues out and remarked how it has helped him personally and how the Lord used that to expose some areas in his life where he needs to grow.
So I would have to disagree with you that this would spoil the rest of his message. If Driscoll were to show growth in this area and also show solid fruit of repentance then I would actually say that would be reason to rejoice in the power of the gospel at work in his life!
Sadly, but as expected, ABC edited out Driscoll's frequent gospel presentations.
Driscoll is to be commended for his clear gospel presentations, and for presenting a theologically accurate depiction of the reality and purpose of evil in God's eternal plan.
I watched the first 15 min before my eyes became too heavy. I was very impressed with Driscoll on Nightline.
I appreciate that he would undertake that forum and host it at his church.
If Driscoll is serious about repenting, he will begin by immediately removing these three postings from his ministry webpages:

Like Wolf said, Driscoll cannot have it both ways. One moment he clearly presents the gospel and THEN his "other side" pops out. "The side" that describes our Lord as a dude going around telling knock knock jokes. "The other side" that gives sermons that sound more like some guy bragging about his sexual escapades in a male locker room than a godly man qualified to speak from the pulpit. Sorry Mike, you cannot have it both ways.
Dear Anonymous.
I have not heard many people who are able to contextualize the gospel within culture the way Driscoll has. He is a guy who responds to culture by showing the image Christianity paints of the issues like sex, humor, and pain in a very practical way.
I find it sad that you seem so out of touch with the issues that many people have questions on, that culture gives us all the wrong answers on, and few churches seem to have the guts to give strightforward answers to.
Every Christian's duty is to contextualize the gospel in their culture, and that means we talk about everything culture talks about, and we point it back to Jesus. I would plead with you to seriously inquire whether your issues are actually orthodox or whether they are simply personal prejudices.
